Trek Routes - 1 Hour Rides

At present we have three main trek routes, two of which are weather dependant as the ground can become very boggy during wet weather.

‘The Old Road’

This route follows what use to be the old single track road from Portree to Dunvegan. This road is now closed to traffic apart from vehicles for residents in this area. Most of the route we ride on tarmac, apart from the dirt track which leads down to Lyndale house. We often spot Roe Deer, Buzzards, Dragonflies and many Cattle and Sheep! Suitable for all levels of rider from Beginners to Experienced. Suitable for Walking & Trotting. All weather route.

‘The Fanks’

The Fanx Route takes you along what use to be the Old Drovers Track through the hills. On this route there are lovely views up across the moors, tranquil mini waterfalls, and views across Loch Snizort. Slightly more challenging terrain for horse and rider, therefore this route is at walking pace. Depending on numbers this ride is suitable for beginners - experienced riders. Unfortunately this route is weather dependant due to the marshy ground conditions in the wetter weather. We also tend not to use this route during Lambing season.

‘The Hill Ride’

The Hill Ride takes you up into the croft land behind the stables, away from all traffic. Up on the hill it is very peaceful and quiet, with great views over the surrounding moorland and down across Loch Snizort. This route is a more challenging ride, and dependant on numbers is generally only used for Novice and Experienced riders. Suitable for walking and trotting. Weather dependant route due to wet conditions underfoot.

All three of these rides leave from the Riding Centre throughout the day. What route is taken will depend on weather and ground conditions and experience levels of riders as rides tend to be of mixed ability. Generally what route we will use is chosen on the day of the ride.
